Adding a new task

To add a new task, go to the master schedule (gantt view). Select the "Task Information" tab. This tab has all of the details about a selected task. If no task is currently selected, this information will be blank. If a task is selected, the information pertaining to the selected task will be displayed.

Enter all of the information about the new task PRIOR to clicking on "Add as a New Task"

addtask

1. Select the Job to which the new task belongs to.
2. Enter the name of the Task.
3. Select the duration of the task.
4. Select the sub-contractor for the job. NOTE: This entry is optional at this point, but highly recommended to be entered when creating the new task.
5-a. If the task is independent of other tasks in this job, select the Start Date that this task will begin on. (NOTE: It is recommended to make as many tasks dependent on other tasks as possible).
5-b. If the task is dependent on another task, select the Job from which the predecessor follows.
5-c. Select the Dependency for this task. (This is the task that is the predecessor of the new task you are creating).
5-d. Select the Day Delay for this task to begin. (If the new task you are creating starts on the next day following the completion of the predecessor, the selection for Day Delay should be entered as "1"). TIP: Negative dependencies can be entered. This is useful when certain task need to be complete prior to a task scheduled later, but are not directly dependent on other tasks. For example, you may enter a task named "Order Bathroom Fixtures" that has a negative 21 Day Delay on the Final Plumbing task.

When all fields are completed, click on "Add as a New Task" and the task will be added to schedule and the gantt chart will be refreshed.

TIP: If you have added a new task and cannot find it in the scheduled view, go to the Gantt Filter tab and be sure that the selected time frame includes the start date of the task entered.
